We're hiring a senior advisor

This is an opportunity for Advisors/Senior Advisors to work for the Office for Disability Issues at a time of sector change and development.

We're looking for a new Senior Advisor to join us at the Office for Disability Issues. 

About the role

The Advisor/Senior Advisor for the Office for Disability Issues (ODI) has a key role providing advice on the priorities and issues for disabled people, leads or contributes to relevant projects and initiatives, and provides support to Ministerial Private Secretaries. These roles provide an exciting opportunity to use your understanding of and commitment to disability issues to progress the rights and outcomes of disabled people in New Zealand. 

There is a strong, cross-government leadership component within the functions of the ODI team.  Knowledge of the disability sector in New Zealand and/or lived experience of disability, with the suitable skills and experience listed in the position description are sought.

You will have a well-developed understanding of government mechanisms, and of policy development and implementation.  Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills are vital, as are a high level of energy and workflow management skill for responding to the varied and important expectations on the Office.

The Senior Advisor roles in ODI have a key role in the Office, which includes leading and co-ordinating the development of ODI projects and work programmes, such as cross-government actions to achieve the New Zealand Disability Strategy (2016 – 2026) and the implementation of the Disability Action Plan.  

A critical part of these roles is to consistently demonstrate positive behaviours and leadership though example. You will be a role model of best practice and behaviour within the Office to lift quality, increase operational outputs, and contribute to a positive and constructive culture.
