Looking forward to 2014

The New Zealand Disability Strategy was developed in 2001. Over the past 12 years, Government has made significant changes to the way it recognises and respects the rights of disabled peoples.

Improvements in the way services are delivered, access needs are met, and information is provided have enabled disabled people to participate more fully in their communities.

A key piece of work for 2014 will be reviewing the New Zealand Disability Strategy to ensure it reflects the United Nations Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and current priorities. This work will be led by the Office for Disability Issues in partnership with Disabled People’s Organisations.
