NZSL Board meeting key messages from 17 and 18 March 2019

What happened at the November NZSL Board meeting?

We received a number of applications to Round 5 of the NZSL Fund.  It was great to see a wide range of exciting community initiatives. Each application was considered against the Round 5 theme, ‘Creative Connections’, and the NZSL Strategy 2018-23. The outcomes of the application process will be announced as soon as possible.

We anticipate that R6 applications will open in August/October of this year, so watch out for future announcements.

The Board received an update on the Office for Disability Issues’ (ODI) Secretariat work to support the Board and on the progress of our commissioned work. We are pleased to see the outcomes of our work.

We are working on ways to connect with the community and want to strengthen our work with the Māori Deaf community - through new members on the Board and through a project to understand the needs and aspirations of the Māori Deaf community.

We would like to acknowledge the work of the current Board members, some of whom may be leaving us. Information about how the Board works and how you can be nominated to become a member of the Board will be available online soon. This will also be shared during a number of regional meetings coming up in April.

Lastly, we would like to welcome Shona Jones, the new ODI Adviser supporting the NZSL Board.
