NZSL Week 2018 - 7-13 May

The NZSL Board is a proud sponsor of this year’s NZSL Week, which celebrates one of New Zealand’s official languages. The week raises awareness of New Zealand’s Deaf community and provides a platform for Deaf people to proudly promote their language and culture.

NZSL Week is an exciting time! Hundreds of free NZSL Taster Classes and many other events will take place all over New Zealand. NZSL Taster Classes are available to businesses, organisations and other groups throughout the month of May, and are available to schools during Term 2.

 An exciting NZSL Week TV commercial is being filmed in March for release during NZSL Week. NZSL flash mobs sign-singing Tiki Taane’s song “No Place Like Home” are being filmed in three locations for editing into one TV ad. The NZSL Flash Mob events is one way for the Deaf community to be involved in the NZSL Week activities Information can be found here .

In addition, the biennial NZSL Awards are this year being hosted by the Minister for Disability Issues, Hon. Carmel Sepuloni in Parliament from 6pm on Thursday 10 May in Wellington.
