Action 8: Improve access to quality information
Improve the quality of information on people experiencing disability, disabling factors and needs, and improve access to this information.
Key steps:
- Collect useful, valuing information of both a qualitative and a quantitative nature. Analyse and use this information to contribute to policy work, service development and monitoring of the New Zealand Disability Strategy implementation.
- Increase research on disability issues and ensure people experiencing disability lead development of the research agenda.
- Improve the quality of information available to people experiencing disability, their families, whānau and carers so that people know their rights; know what they can expect from mainstream and disability-specific services; and are able to make decisions on the basis of the best evidence available.
- Government agencies and publicly funded services will make public information available in forms appropriate to the different communication needs of people experiencing disability.
