15: New DPA Chief Executive Officer
Ross Brereton has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Disabled Persons Assembly (DPA). Ross took up the position fulltime on 22 March 2010.
Ross has much experience in supporting the lives of disabled people and their families. Ross is a former Human Rights Commissioner and has fulfilled leadership roles in the management and governance of several national and local disability organisations. Ross has a congenital visual impairment.
16: New Zealand Disability Support Network
The New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN) has developed a paper for discussion on "NGO Perspective on the
re-organisation of the Planning and Funding Environment". This paper is in response to changes announced by the Government for the devolving of funding from the Ministry of Health to the appropriate national, regional or local structures.
The New Zealand Disability Support network is being officially launched by Minister Turia on Wednesday 14 April 2010.
Venues are booked in Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin if you would like to attend.
17: Cancer Control New Zealand
Cancer Control New Zealand has started a newsletter, `Cannected', they are aiming to release after each Council meeting.
The inaugural newsletter covers an introduction to Cancer Control, who are the members, terms of reference and work priorities.
