20: The Disability Clothesline project

The New Zealand Disability Clothesline Project was launched on 25 November, White Ribbon day. The aim of the Disability Clothesline Project is to:

  • make violence towards disabled people visible
  • address the issues of violence against disabled people.

Disabled people who have experienced violence can draw, paint, or write about their own experience and by sharing their stories give visibility to the abuse. The Project is being run by the Disability Coalition Against Violence (DCAV).  The Disabled Persons Assembly (DPA), the national network of stopping violence services, CCS Disability Action, People First and Age Concern and a number of other organizations are also involved.
