14: Association for Supported Employment in New Zealand Conference (ASENZ): Call for papers April 2009.
The annual conference is in Wellington from 14-15 September 2009. Post-conference workshops are being held on 16 September. This year's conference theme is "If the tough get going, when the going gets tough! Where do they go? And what do they do when they get there?"
Papers are now being called for. Proposals must be submitted by the end of April.

15: An Introduction to Social Role Valorisation: Auckland 23-24 April 2009.
Brain Injury Auckland and Standards Plus are hosting a two-day workshop for people wanting to gain a high level of understanding of the nature of valued roles for people in our communities who are disabled and disadvantaged, particularly as a result of brain injury. This event is suited to people who are searching for ideas, values and strategies to guide them when they work with people who are marginalised because of age, disabilities, mental illness or other factors.

IDEA services (Intellectual Disability Empowerment in Action) is hosting a four-day seminar in Christchurch led by Gary W LaVigna, Clinical Director of the Institute for Applied Behaviour Analysis in Los Angeles, California.

17: Social Stories Seminars: 18-22 May 2009.
Carol Gray, Director of The Gray Center for Social Learning and Understanding in the USA is giving seminars on Social Stories in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington. Social Stories and Comic Strip Conversations are strategies used with children, adolescents, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

18: Whose Life Is it Anyway? Conversations on Supported Living: 4 June 2009.
This event aims to provide a forum for people to share and reflect where we are now in New Zealand with our understanding of supported living, and how can service providers better support people's lives. The forum is being held at the Te Papa in Wellington on 4 June 2009.

19: ROCKONZ Rock 'n' Retro Festival 2009: 10-17 May 2009.
A week long programme of events is being held in Christchurch to raise funds for CanTeen, the organisation supporting young people living with cancer; and the Alan Bean Centre Spinal Trust, for research and learning in rehabilitation. The ROCKONZ Rock 'n' Retro Festival programme includes a parade of classic cars and hotrods, retro music nights, jive classes, a charity auction, hall of fame awards dinner, a concert and dance.

Standards Plus is hosting a series of three, one day workshops presented by Michael Kendrick. The workshops will take place in Wellington 10-12 June and Auckland 15-17June .

21: Australian and New Zealand Communications (ANZC) Conference: Brisbane 8-10 July 2009.
The Australian and New Zealand Communications (ANZC) Conference is being held in Brisbane, Australia, 8-10 July 2009. It has a Disability and Communication stream with the topic "New Directions in Creativity and Global Citizenship".

22: Working together across the lifespan rehabilitation conference: 21-25 July 2009.
This conference is being held in Queenstown on 21-25 July 2009, and focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation. The conference is co-hosted by Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation, the National Institute of Rehabilitation Research and the New Zealand Rehabilitation Association.

23: Anxiety - the silent disability: 23-25 July 2009.
The Phobic Trust's fifth international conference is focused on creating an awareness of the social and economic cost of anxiety and phobic disorders. The conference will be in Auckland from 23-25 July 2009.

Barrier Free are running two day seminars around the country throughout 2009 that furthers training to become a Barrier Free Advisor on building accessibility.

25: New Zealand association for the study of intellectual disability (NZASID) Conference: Call for papers July 2009.
NZASID are holding its annual conference in Hamilton from 26-27 August. The theme of the conference is "From theory to practice - knowledge". Papers are now being called for and proposals for presentations should be submitted by 1 July 2009 to adrian@cct.org.au

26: Asia Pacific Autism Conference Sydney: 20-22 August 2009 (APAC 09).
APAC 09 will bring together people with an autism spectrum disorder, families and carers, educators, researchers, service providers and practitioners from across Australia and the Asia Pacific region. The conference has four streams:
- epidemiology, causes and diagnosis
- life span
- family life, family functioning and family resilience
- autism across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

27: Culture and Suicide Prevention in Aotearoa: 10-11 September 2009.
The symposium is being hosted by the Suicide Prevention in New Zealand to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September 2009. The theme of the symposium is Maori suicide rates. Papers are now being called for and proposals for presentations should be submitted by 25 June 2009.

29: Making Inclusive Education Happen Conference: 28-30 September 2009.
The conference is being held 28-30 September 2009 at Te Papa in Wellington. It will include discussion on:
- what we mean when we talk about inclusive education
- the values that underlie inclusive policies and practices in education
- children's rights, human rights, and social justice foundations for inclusive education
- the development of inclusive policy in education
- inclusive practices in relation to curriculum, teaching and learning, and teacher education.
