08: Review of the Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994 and the Code.
The Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994 requires the Health and Disability Commissioner to regularly review the Act and the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights, and consider whether any changes are necessary or desirable, and report the findings to the Minister of Health.
As part of the review, the Commissioner has published a consultation document, which outlines areas for possible change. The consultation document can be downloaded in PDF format from the Health and Disability Commissioner website. Alternative formats of the consultation document can be requested by contacting the Health and Disability Commission.
Consultation meetings may take place during February 2009 in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, depending on the public interest. People are invited to write to the Health and Disability Commission, or call 0800 11 22 33 to register their interest to attend the consultation meetings.
