10: Paralympic Summer Games: Beijing China 6-17 September 2008.

The Paralympic Summer Games are being held in Beijing from 6-17 September 2008.  In the leadup to the Paralympic Games, TV One will screen two documentaries on 31 August and 1 September at 11.00pm.  They will also be available on TVNZ on-demand.

A daily package of highlights will be screened on TV One at 11.00pm daily, and TVNZ 7 at 4.10pm. These packages will also be available on TVNZ on-demand.

11: "Our Stories" exhibition 12 September 2008 - 1 February 2009.

"Our Stories" is a two year joint project sponsored by CCS Disability Action and IHC seeking to challenge barriers to inclusion by disabled people.  The exhibition started in Christchurch and is touring around New Zealand.
Wellington Events include:
- the launch at the New Dowse in Lower Hutt on 12 September
- an Employers Evening on 16 September 
- a Community, Sport and recreation Evening on 23 September

The exhibition includes:
- 43  black and white images
- a book "The Man With No Arms and Other Stories" by Glenn Busch
- educational workshops for students from years 5-8 -DVD Workshop for years 7 and 8 classes.

12: Opportunity to participate in the Japanese government's leadership programme February 2009.

The Japanese Government operates an international programme to develop leadership in civil society through collaboration and the development of key networks. This year New Zealand has been invited to participate along with the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Sister Cities New Zealand Inc. is contracted to administer the programme in this country.

The programme has two parts, the Sending Programme (where Japanese people visit New Zealand) and the Invitation Programme (where New Zealanders visit Japan).

The government of Japan are inviting a group of thirteen people from New Zealand, selected for their engagement in the disability, senior citizen, and youth sectors to visit Japan from 3 February to 17 February 2009.

Applications for participation in the Invitation Programme are now being called for. Applications will be considered by a panel of the Board of Sister Cities New Zealand Inc. and the New Zealand Government, for recommendation to the Cabinet Office of Japan,  who shall make the final selection. The closing date for applications is 19 September 2007.

13: Recovery via Internet from Depression (RID).

The Injury Prevention Research Unit (IPRU) at the University of Otago is inviting 700 volunteers  to take part in a NZ-wide trial to test a set of self-help interventions to reduce depression and related problems in our communities. The trial is for a two year period and is known as Recovery via Internet from Depression or RID.

This trial should not be considered to be a substitute for professional advice for treatment for depression or anxiety. The RID team is unable to provide advice to people about their personal circumstances.

Enrolments are open until 30 September 2008.

14: Touch Compass 2008 Season: Auckland 1 - 4 October 2008.
