Have your say on the proposed NZSL interpreter registry

There will be an online consultation with the Deaf community happening soon, as well as some focus group meetings for more in-depth discussions about the registry.

Tricia Fitzgerald (from Fitzgerald & Associates) is doing more research & consultation about the proposed NZSL interpreter registry system, on behalf of the Office for Disability Issues and the NZSL Board. Catherine Greenwood is assisting Tricia with this consultation, particularly with the Deaf Community.

This is the third phase of this project, following on from two completed reports Fitzgerald & Associates have done (in 2016 and 2017). You can read/watch more about the overall project, and the intentions of this specific phase here .

For this phase, we are consulting with the Deaf community, seeking your feedback on some things about the proposed NZSL interpreter registry, such as what the priorities should be for the registry, and what should happen with interpreters who are not registered.

The background on this consultation and the questions are in both NZSL and English. You can look at them:

Your feedback can be given to us:

  • through the Facebook group
  • a private Facebook message to Catherine Greenwood
  • on the website
  • via email to Catherine (via videomail.io  for NZSL); her email address is catherine@greenwoods.nz

Deadline for your feedback is Wednesday 6 June.
