New Zealand Disability Strategy Implementation Work Plan. 1 July 2006 – 30 June 2007

Introduction

The Treasury is the Government’s principal economic and financial advisor.

Treasury have a role in the central management of the Crown’s finances including the annual budget, and managing the government’s expenditure and revenue flows, including its borrowing requirements.

The Treasury have a strong focus in the area of public sector management. We monitor and analyse developments in the New Zealand and international economies and advise the Government accordingly.

We provide wide-ranging policy advice, commenting on most expenditure proposals before the Government and participating in many general reviews of policy.

The Treasury have clearly articulated the importance of investing in our Organisation and its People in the Treasury's strategic document, the Strategic Direction Summary, which has a management objective to ‘ enhance the capability of our people, addressing any talent gaps to support our outcome priorities’. The EEO Management Programme 2005-2008 makes explicit reference to the Strategic Direction Summary.

Treasury is a member of the EEO Trust and has an active EEO Committee which monitors the EEO health of the organisation. In the past few years Treasury has done a lot of work on organisational culture to ensure that Treasury is a good place to work and that it supports organisational diversity, in the cultures of the people who work here and in their unique backgrounds, aspirations and qualifications.
