Government Communications Security Bureau

New Zealand Disability Strategy Implementation Work Plan. 1 July 2006 – 30 June 2007

Introduction

The Government Communications Security Bureau’s (GCSB) function is to contribute to the national security of New Zealand through the collection and reporting of foreign signals intelligence in response to New Zealand ’s foreign intelligence requirements. It also gives advice and assistance to New Zealand government departments and agencies on the security of information processing systems.

The mission of the GCSB is to contribute to the national security of New Zealand though:

  1. providing foreign signals intelligence to support and inform Government decision making;
  2. providing an all hours foreign intelligence watch and warning service to Government;
  3. ensuring the integrity, availability and confidentiality of official information through the provision of information systems security services to Government; and
  4. assisting in the protection of the national critical infrastructure from information-borne threats.

The GCSB’s statement of intent outlines an overall policy, which is being pursued through a range of strategies and policies including the HR Strategy, EEO Policy and family-friendly policies that encourage continued participation in the workforce through flexible employment practices.
