Nominations service | To have a register of appropriately skilled disabled people for nomination to government boards and committees. | The number of people on the database has increased from 35 to 62, and 65 requests for nominees were received. Nominations were made to over half these requests. In addition, the Office has encouraged disabled people to self nominate for positions on disability advisory groups and committees at a local level, with some success. A small number of people on the database attended director training courses provided by the Crown Company Monitoring Advisory Unit. |
| Leadership capacity building fund | • To support the leadership of disabled people and their families. | The Capacity Building Fund 2007/2008 provided: • $40,000 to disability groups to develop their regional leadership • $37,000 to subsidise attendance at conferences/courses • $74,000 to produce resources that promote knowledge and participation of disabled people in: • DHB elections • UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled Persons • New Zealand Disability Strategy • preparing funding proposals |

Nominations service | To give women who are registered on the Ministry‘s nominations database, some of whom who have identified as disabled, wider opportunities for appointment to a range of state sector boards and committees | The number of disabled women on the Ministry of Women’s Affairs Nominations database has increased. In the year ended June 2007, 27 out of the total database of 2,621 were disabled women. In the year ended June 2008, 31 out of the total 2,736 were disabled women. Two disabled women were appointed to state sector boards and committees during the year ended 30 June 2008. |
