Carers Strategy | To develop a Carers’ Strategy as an important first step in acknowledging the very real difference carers make in people’s lives. | The New Zealand Carers’ Strategy and Five-year Action Plan was published in April 2008. The Strategy was developed in a partnership between government agencies and the New Zealand Carers Alliance, a network of over 40 non-governmental organisations. Public consultation was held from July to September 2007 on the views of carers, those they care for, employers, and wider society. Issues identified included improving support for carers, improving information about caring, and helping carers to combine employment and caring responsibilities. Cabinet directed officials to report on progress of the Carers’ Strategy, annually. |
